What is keyhole/ laparoscopic surgery?

Laparoscopy is a keyhole operation to look inside the abdomen (tummy). Keyhole surgery, where possible, has benefits over open surgery. These benefits include: a quicker recovery; less pain; less time in hospital; and a faster return to work.

This may be done as a diagnostic procedure, for example to investigate and/or treat pain.

Other keyhole/laparoscopic procedures that our expert gynaecologists offer include:

Cystectomy - removal of cysts
Oophorectomy/Salpingo-oophorectomy - removal of ovaries +/- fallopian tubes
Hysterectomy - removal of womb
